Our review

DentalMonitoring is an AI platform for remote monitoring of orthodontic treatment. Patients take scans at home with their smartphone and a scan accessory, and the AI checks progress and flags issues such as aligner fit or broken brackets between visits. The practice reviews alerts and can reduce unnecessary in-office checks. The platform also includes patient engagement tools, practice insights and SmartSTL 3D model tools.

The FDA granted DentalMonitoring De Novo authorization in May 2024, and it also holds EU MDR certification. The company calls itself the orthodontic industry's first AI-powered software as a medical device, with 21 of its indications covered by those clearances. It announced $150 million in growth financing at a $1 billion valuation.

Who it's for: orthodontists and general practices with a large aligner or braces caseload that want fewer routine visits and earlier problem detection.

Watch-outs: pricing isn't published. This is an orthodontic tool, not a radiograph reader. Patient compliance with home scanning drives results.

Our take: 8.1. The regulatory leader in remote ortho monitoring.
