Our review

Flex Dental is a patient engagement add-on built only for practices on Open Dental. It adds the automation, communication and payment tools Open Dental doesn't have, including scheduling and reminders, two-way texting, digital intake, payments and reporting. Flex doesn't replace the PMS: Open Dental stays the source of truth, and everything Flex does syncs back to it automatically.

Flex is an authorized Open Dental integration vendor and says it is used by more than 3,500 Open Dental practices. It reports up to a 65% reduction in no-shows and more than 10 hours a week saved on admin; these are vendor figures. New customers get two hours of complimentary team training.

Who it's for: Open Dental practices that want a tightly integrated engagement and payments layer without adding a heavyweight platform.

Watch-outs: it only works with Open Dental, so it won't follow you if you switch PMS. Compare it with broader platforms if you also need phones or an AI receptionist.
