Our review

uLab Systems makes uDesign, AI-assisted treatment planning software for clear aligners, now available as uDesign Cloud. Clinicians plan comprehensive, limited, hybrid and combo cases themselves, or hand setups to the uAssist concierge team. Aligners can be printed in-office for small or same-day cases, or ordered as uSmile aligners and retainers made by uLab. The platform also exports indirect bonding trays for bracket placement.

uDesign received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2020 (K200772). uLab offers a la carte ordering, bundles and practice-branded packaging. In its 2022 customer survey, 94% said they would recommend uLab; that's a vendor survey.

Who it's for: orthodontists and aligner-focused general dentists who want control of their own treatment plans and more flexible pricing than a single-brand aligner company.

Watch-outs: pricing isn't published. In-office printing requires equipment and staff time, so model the per-case cost carefully.

Our take: 7.7. Flexible, clinician-controlled aligner planning.
