Our review

DEXIS is a dental imaging company (part of Envista) that makes sensors, CBCT units and intraoral scanners such as IMPREVO, all tied together by its DTX Studio software. In April 2023 DTX Studio Clinic received FDA 510(k) clearance for AI that flags six types of findings on bitewing and periapical x-rays: caries, discrepancy at margin, root canal defects, periapical radiolucency, bone loss and calculus. Earlier clearances cover automated tooth identification, full-mouth series sorting and mandibular nerve tracing on CBCT.

Because the AI is built into the imaging software, there's no separate app to open. DEXIS says DTX Studio is used by more than 10,000 dental offices. CephX's ortho AI is also integrated into DTX Studio Clinic.

Who it's for: practices already on DEXIS imaging, or buying new imaging hardware, that want AI detection without another vendor.

Watch-outs: pricing isn't published and the AI is tied to the DEXIS ecosystem. Compare detection scope and patient-facing tools with Pearl and Overjet.

Our take: 8.2. Strong built-in AI for DEXIS users.
